Doug Ager

CEO & Co-founder

Doug grew up at Hickory Nut Gap Farm in Fairview, NC where he spent much of his childhood working on the family farm and exploring the forests and farmlands in the area. His first foray into business was in high school when he started a business selling firewood. He took a year off after high school and drove to Montana to attend farrier school and then worked on a ranch there over the summer. He returned to Asheville and pursued his undergraduate studies at Warren Wilson College and then later built a cabin on his family's property and did various jobs as a timberframer, landscaper, cook, and carpenter. In his early 30's, he got a master's degree in English Literature from Western Carolina University before co-founding Sugar Hollow Solar with his cousin.

Growing up in such a beautiful place inspired him to pursue meaningful work that would help create a more sustainable future. He became interested in business and the idea that it could be a force for good while watching his brother and sister-in-law start the company Hickory Nut Gap Meats which focused on sustainable agriculture.

Nowadays, he lives with his wife, son and two dogs in Asheville, NC where he enjoys getting outside as much as he can during his free time hiking, snowboarding and gardening.
